1 – What is your earliest memory of music in your life?

Going to church in Tyneside and singing hymn tunes. ‘For Those In Peril On The Sea’ was my favourite, but we sang it when a fishing boat was missing, so it was always a hymn imbued with great power.

2 – What album influenced you or your style the most?

‘Bass Culture’ by Linton Kwesi Johnson. John Kpyaje, the guitarist on the album, was a huge influence on me. I also learned to play bass guitar by listening to this record.

3 – What piece or performance are you most proud of to date?

My playing on my new record, ‘God Is Love’ is getting close to what I want to hear coming out of my guitar, (an 8-string Allan Beardsell Manouche 4G model). Neil hand-winds the strings for the guitar for me. I’m also using a Fylde Ariel, for this record, which is strung with Masterclass Nickelwounds 12-52.
